I haven't written a First Friday post for a couple of month because I was bored. DC real estate is interesting and varied but it also tends to be the same. A lot of Colonials, Wardmans, pre-war condos and coops with a couple of modern places. But every once in a while, a house I love hits the market. This weeks featured property is one example.
1740 13th St, NW is a house I've walked by for years. It's interesting to me because of it's shape: it's wide instead of deep which is really unusual. In 2007, it was listed for sale for 850K. It was described as an estate sale, livable but a fixer upper. It sold for 849K. I waited for it to be redeveloped. Finally, in 2010 it sold for $1,472,500. I've always been really curious to see the finishes and the space. As you can see from the pictures, it's stunning.
The home has hardwood floors, a formal living with a double sided fireplace, a dining room, a chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and 3 bedrooms upstairs including a sumptous master bedroom and bath. There's also a 2 bedroom rental in the basement. It's located 2 blocks to the 14th St. corridor of retail and restaurants.
