Last night, my husband and I finally tried El Chucho, the new taqueria in Columbia Heights. It was a beautiful evening and we sat on their roof deck. Unbeknownest to us, they have a wonderful Happy Hour.
All tacos are half price which means you get two tacos for $2.50-$4.00, beers on tap and house margaritas are $4.00. Cha-ching...you know I love a deal. We definitely over ordered. Cheap tacos will do that to you and my husband was starving.
We started with the house salad (boring, I know, but a girl has to get her daily greens) and the Elote Callejero or street style grilled corn on the cob. Both were fantastic. The salad had a spicy salsa roja for the dressing that packed some heat along with avocado, hearts of palm and tortilla strips. The corn was grilled then doused with mayo and rolled in queso fresco and cilantro. Sound gross but it's delicious.
We also sampled the steak, pork, chicken and vegetarian tacos. I enjoyed all of the tacos. My husband, who is tougher critic, wasn't impressed with the steak or chicken tacos. His favorites were the pork and vegetarian. He also thought the pork taco or tacos al pastor were the best he's tasted in DC.
Oveall, I enjoyed our meal and we'll be going back. It's a great neighborhood place and a happy hour deal is always an added bonus.
